I would like to tell you about one very interesting estate located on the North-West of Moscow near my house. It’s a place where I like to spend my free time and rest since my earliest childhood. Everything is forgotten there: welcome receptions, excursions are not held anymore. A huge and beautiful park joined to the estate fell into desertion but it is always ready to welcome numerous crowds of visitors.
The name of this estate is “Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo”. Are you aware that in the park there are more than 200 kinds of plants. “Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo” has many mysteries.
This estate was built in the 17th century. One of its owners was Rodion Streshnev. He was in the employ of 4 tsars in the Romanovs’ dynasty and was the tutor of Peter I himself. The estate was rebuilt many times and new owners added something original. Famous towers in the Empire style were built by Princess Shakhovskaya – the last owner of the estate.
The oldest building in the estate is the Virgin of Mercy church which was built in the 17th century. In the 19th century it was rebuilt due to a famous doctor – Sergey Botkin who financed the construction. Such famous people as Lev Tolstoy, Alexey Tolstoy and Mikhail Bulgakov were visitors of the estate also.
Are you aware that the most famous and the only fresh spring is located namely in the “Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo” estate! Water there is crystal-clear. It is filtered by natural sand ground and even in winter it is not frozen as the temperature there is 6 degrees above zero.
I adore this estate! I like to walk through the park and whisper with leaves under my feet. In summer I am fond of roller-skating and riding a bicycle. Then I come to the spring and drink some well water. In winter I prefer sledging. Near the ponds you can see many ducks which stay there even during severe winters. We try to take care of them e.g. we often bring some bread and feed them.
I believe that the state will be restored and survived for our future generation because it’s not only some place of pure nature but it is our history and our culture!
