Saint Petersburg has a lot of legends and unusual monuments. One of them is the sculptures of cats.
The sculptures of cats Elisey and Vasilisa are on eaves of houses on both sides of Malaya Sadovaya Street, opposite each other. The cat Vasilisa is on eaves of the second floor of the house №3. Small and graceful, she looks upwards coquettishly and at the corner of the house №8, you can see the Cat Elisey. The author of idea is an historian Sergey Lebedev.
There is a version that "the Cat Elisey" and "the Cat Vasilisa" are monuments to the Yaroslavl cats delivered to Leningrad during the days of blockade, for rescue of a city from the rats that have congested it. The sculpture of the cat Elisey is established at Tatiana’s day on the 25th of January, 2000 (the day of students), and its girlfriend – the cat Vasilisa - on the 1st of April, 2000.
On a sign, they grant a wish if the thrown coin remains on their pedestals! People believe that Elisey helps students get rid of “failed test”, only it is necessary to throw a coin!
Today enterprising inhabitants of St. Petersburg have added “charm" to monuments. There is a popular belief - if you throw a coin, and it will land near with Elisey or Vasilisa, you catch good luck «by the tail».
