There are many names of seas with different colours: the Red Sea, The Yellow Sea, The Black Sea, but we live in the North near the White Sea. Many islands in this sea are part of Arkhangelsk Oblast. Our region is famous for its wooden buildings which include churches, chapels, peasant houses, farms and city houses. There are a number of Russian Orthodox monasteries, including the World Heritage Site of the Solovetsky Islands in the White Sea. Founded in the middle of the 15th century on the islands of the Solovetski Archipelago, the Solovetski Monastery was one of the richest and most powerful in Russia.
The White Sea is described in the books of our Northern writers and is shown in the films and cartoons. It gives food and work. The sea has always been important for people mainly specialize in fishing and sea - hunting also make a contribution to the economy. The White Sea is also the way of transporting goods.
When the White Sea is stormy it frightens people. When it` s calm it makes them feel relaxed and happy, so many people enjoy watching the sea. Lives of many famous people were connected to the White Sea. For example, Mikhail Vasilievich Lomonosov went fishing with his dad since he was a little boy. All the dangers of sailing made him stronger and the sea gave him food for thought. As for me, I really love swimming in the sea during my summer holidays, enjoying cool water in a hot day.
