Nizhnekamsk is situated on the left bank of the Kama River 300km from Kazan. It is a big industrial and cultural centre and the third largest city in Tatarstan.
In my opinion, the most exciting place in our town is the Holy Spring. It has an interesting history. It is said that the icon of Prelate Nikolay Chudotvorets was found there, the Bulgarian Imam was buried there and Ioann Kronshtadtsky visited that place. In 1882 merchants the Staheevs bought the property Holy Spring and began to build the summer residence on high bank of the river. They have surrounded the houses with gardens, greenhouses, verandahs and fountains. Nut, pith trees, citrus plants were raised here. Flowers, strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers grew in winter and summer. Unfortunately, after revolution the Staheevs had to leave for France.
Many years later, Holy Spring was reconstructed and improved by the 35th anniversary of the city. The idea of its regeneration was turned into life by the famous local artist and designer Vladimir Nikolsky, whose talent revealed itself very expressively. Natural rubble stone on each step of broad stairs which lead to the new rebuilt embankment of the river Kama, severe metal grating decorated with patterns plus original lamps absolutely changed this prohibited nature comer. Three memorial boards were placed in restored chapel. One board experts from the Koran, another one from the Bible and the third one gives short historical information about the origin of the Holy Spring. It's hard to believe that all this work was done by hand.
Nizhnekamsk is a town of the dream. Citizens love their town and they are greatly proud of it because it is the town which has endless opportunities for development and growing.
