At the beginning of the 20th century there lived a woman in Alexandrov. Her name was Anastasia Tsvetayeva. Her elder sister Marina often came to visit her and lived there for a long time. She was a famous Russian poetess. Her most well-known series of poems written in Alexandrov are “To Ahmatova”, “Poems about Moscow” and other. There was a special period in the poetess’ creative life known as “Marina Tsvetayeva’s summer in Alexandrov” during which many wonderful poems were written.
In June 1991 the museum was opened in the former Tsvetayevs’ house. It is the first and the only one in Russia. It has a remarkable collection of the works of many famous cultural workers: Marina and Anastasia Tsvetayevs, Adelaida Gertsyk, Sergey Yelpatyevsky and other.
There is also an exposition in the museum which is devoted to the tragedy of the people belonging to creative intelligentsia. All of them suffered from Stalin’s repressions.
In the Hall of chamber music attached to the museum a lot of concerts and exhibitions are held every month.
Many tourists visit the Tsvetayevs’ Literary Museum and they are greatly impressed by it. All the people living in Alexandrov are proud of having such a famous countrywoman and do their best to cherish the memory of her.
