I would like to tell you about the most wonderful old man in the world. I saw him last winter. He lived in the village Sundukovo, Chuvash Republic in a distance of 50 km from Cheboksary. His name was Terentiy Paramonovich Dverenin. He was ninety-one years old then. My parents and I went to his place and came to the fairy-tale. One of the rooms in the house was full of dolls made by Terentiy Paramonovich. They performed the scenes from the old man’s life at his younger age. He told us, that as a young man he had been taken to the war in 1942, had served as a tanker and the Victory Day he had met in Berlin.
There we could see the scenes from the life of the country people just before the war, during the war and after the end of it. Those scenes told me a lot about hardship of the severe years of the Great Patriotic War. I learned that people were not waiting for the war and it was a great shock. When men went to the war, women had to do all the work themselves. They planted and gathered the harvest, prepared wood and did a lot of other necessary and hard things.
Terentiy Paramonovich himself had made every each part for those wonderful scenes. He cut, sewed and even embroidered the dresses, made national caps for women, called “tukhya”. He knitted socks and weaved basts and made shoes for his dolls. The most wonderful thing for me was a miniature loom! It functioned! I thought that the old man was very talented and had golden hands. Terentiy Paramonovich had had an exhibition in Moscow. He had received the State Award of the Chuvash Republic. Many people visited him and enjoyed his Art. He had planed several projects more.
We noticed that the old man loved his dolls as if they were his children. He talked to them playfully. I was so thankful to Terentiy Paramonovich for his wonderful hobby. As I liked to sing and had taken part in concerts, I sang for him. The old man was really glad and invited us to visit him again. We wished him health and many years to come and promised to visit him and his dolls.
Thank you so much dearest Terentiy Paramonovich.
