My native village Ust-Nem is situated on the right bank of the river Wychegda. It is situated on the seven hills as Moskow. We are very proud of this fact.
The name of our native village in komi is Nemdin. It means that the village is situated opposite the place where two rivers Nem and Wychegda meat.
I would like to know what the meaning of the word “Nem” is. Nem is the left tributary of the river Wychegda. It starts in the marsh Nemkush (in komi “kush” means “the marsh without forest”). During the listing in 1586 and 1608 it is written “the river Nemya”. In manci (a language like komi) Nam (dial. Nem) means “name, geographical denomination” and “ya” means “a river”. We can make a supposition that “Nemya” means “the river with a name” or “the river with a geographical denomination”.
There is another meaning of Nemya: “the named river” or “the known river”. Now this river is a nature reserve of Republic Komi.
