Talezh is a small village situated 80km from Moscow to the south, in Chekhov region. It is a very picturesque place surrounded by forest. It used to be a quiet village in my childhood where even buses seldom stopped. Now it`s just the other way round. Hundreds of people from our country and abroad come in search of wonder to Talezh. The reason of it is Saint David`s Spring. People visit it to drink holy water, have a bath in the fonts and pray. They believe that they`ll get the help and cure here and many get.
Talezh has a long history. It was first mentioned in 1328 in Ivan Kalita`s deed. In the end of the eighteenth century it belonged to count Orlov. In 1796 count built a church of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary here. It has been restored recently and was opened in 2011 for believers. Our great Russian writer Anton Pavlovich Chekhov built a school for peasants in the village but unfortunately it isn`t conserved.
Talezh is a beautiful place with flowers and green meadows in summer. A lot of mushroom-pickers can be seen in the forests nearby among pine trees and birches, a lot of newly-married couples drive here to be blessed and still a lot of people come here in search of wonder…
