Elk Island is a large forest on a north east from Moscow centre. This forest has been known since the XV century. It was a hunting place for Russians tsars.
National Park Elk Island was founded in 1983 in Moscow region for take care of nature: forest and animals that live over there. Elks, boars, deer live in the forest. Beavers live in lakes and small rivers of Elk Island. It is prohibited to make fire, cut trees and bushes leave garbage in the park area. There are children ecology education centre in city part of National Park. Pupils come there with their parents and teachers to take information about National Park and about those who live there. Often people spend in Elk Island folk holidays such as carnival, day of water, day of ground, magpie.
In summer citizen go for a walk, run and ride a bike in the forest. In winter they ski. Children like to ride from mountain. Last winter the adventure racing “Winter racing 2012” was in the park. People like to rest in Elk Island. They try to take care of it.
