Every person has a place which he or she loves and calls the Motherland. For me it is a little town Porkhov where I was born and used to live for nine years. Its Fortress was found by Alexander the Macedonian to protect Russia from the Lithuanian and Swedish invasions. Not all border towns have such value. And those which have may possess no beautiful legends. But this fortress has its amazing story: “Once upon a time, a beautiful girl who was in love with a shepherd lived in the city. The guy also loved the girl. And it would be all right with them ... But lady’s stepmother put the eye on her valentine, who did not answer her affection. Then the wicked stepmother used witchcraft and sharpened his stepdaughter in the tower. And the shepherd vanished. After a while, a young man, driving near the tower, heard the shout and pleading for help. He freed the girl, and they fell in love and lived happily ever after.” My grandmother told me this romantic story. Unfortunately, the tower was destroyed and there are only ruins on its place. And despite the fact that I am now living in the other city, I will always love my city, my little home. There is no matter how much time had passed.
