The Lovozero Tundra is an intricate place. The earth is warm here all year round. The place is lonely, dull, deserted. People are missing here on a regular basis. Local residents are afraid of deepening into the valley, which is located between two large lakes Umbozero and Lovozero. In the center there is a sacred lake and the valley, which is called the Lovozero Tundra. This place has a bad reputation. There is a legend that long ago the local residents – the Sami - were attacked by a wicked giant named Kuyva. Despite the bravery of the Sami, they failed to win the giant. They appealed for help to their gods. The gods hurled a shaft of lightning at the monster. All that remained of Kuyva was his body imprint on a rock Angvundaschorr, the highest peak of the Lovozero Tundra.
In 1921 scientific expedition led by Alexander Barchenko visited a mysterious place. Scientists came with the intention to study the phenomenon of mass psychoses. 17 years later professor Barchenko was arrested by the NKVD, he was shot. What is going on in the Lovozero tundra? There are a lot of versions. The most famous is the hypothesis of a hidden source of thermal energy existence, which was seeking by the expedition of Alexander Barchenko.
According to another version, the cause of death and disappearance of people is "Bigfoot" or the Yeti who lives in the Lovozero Tundra.
