Frankly speaking I am proud of being a Muscovite and I think Moscow is one of the most magnificent cities in the world and can boast a number of unique sighs and places of interest. According to the Chronicles the history of Moscow began in the year 1147. At that time, Moscow was the possession of Yuri Dolgoruky, who ruled the surrounding region. My native city is a political, administrative, economic, industrial, educational and cultural centre of the Russian Federation.
An Interesting fact
Let me tell you a very interesting fact about one of the Moscow sights - Moscow Metro. If you ride towards the centre of the city, the stations will be declared by a men’s voice but if you move from the city centre – female. In my opinion, it’s very useful for blind people and foreigners. In addition to this, if you move in a clockwise direction you will hear a men’s voice again, and a counterclockwise – female.
Fascinating Moscow sights
Many people mostly associate Moscow with the Kremlin and Red Square than with any other places in Moscow. The oldest and busiest sections of Moscow lie near the Kremlin, a huge walled fortress at the city's historic centre. All the ceremonies are held in Red Square and ,of course, in different holidays we can see military and civilian parades there. Nearby there is St. Basil's Cathedral. It was built in the 16th century to celebrate a military victory; it is now a museum. I strongly recommend everybody visiting it because the view is fascinating. In Red Square people can see the monuments connected with the history of Russia. For instance, the monument to Minin and Pozharsky and a large number of monuments to Russian poets, architectures, musicians and soldiers are located there as well. You can also find the Mausoleum; it is a place where the body of the Soviet leader is located and as for the tombs of other political figures, you can see them at the Kremlin wall. The largest museums of Moscow are the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and the State Tretyakov Gallery. There we can find one of the richest collections of paintings in the world. I can say that I have been at all those places many times but I wouldn’t mind going there again because those places are really magnificent. I can’t compare Moscow with any other city in the world. It’s my own city, it’s my home!
