I love my town, where the history is on every step. I want you to love it too. My favorite place here is the Vitoslavlitsy Museum of Wooden Architecture. It is situated 4 km south of Novgorod, in the vicinity of St. George`s Monastery. Prince Isyaslav Mstislavich, in the 1134 charter, mentions the village of Vitoslavlitsy and the nearly Monastery. The park, meadows and surviving buildings were purchased by the Countess A.Orlova in the 19th century. The environs south of Novgorod attracted specialists’ attention in 1964 when a decision was made to design a museum–reserve of folk wooden architecture. L.E. Krasnorechyev drafted the design, and later elaborated the master plan of the museum. This preserve of Russian cultural and natural heritage occupies an area of over 30 hectares. In accordance with the general design, seventy structures will be displayed in the four sections of the museum, in the grave yard and in the mill complex. Twenty two wooden monuments have already been brought to the open-air museum from different parts of the Novgorod region. They are fine examples of authentic 19th and early 20th century architecture. Some are true masterpieces of early Russian art.
Vitoslavlitsy is the place, where national Russian holidays and festivals are held. In the festive atmosphere of the holiday, visitors actively participate in the ceremonies and rituals, fortune-telling, games, amusements and in general merry-making of the occasion. You are welcome to our ancient city, Velikiy Novgorod. Come and feel its true beauty!
