The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts

This museum is known to be one of the largest and most significant Russian museums of art in Europe and in the world. Every day long queues line up at the building located in Volkhonka street in the centre of Moscow. The exhibitions are very popular.
The Pushkin Fine Arts museum was founded by Ivan Tsvetaev, the professor of Moscow State University. It was designed to introduce students and visitors to the main stages in the history of art from ancient civilizations and this would make the Moscow museum the first institution of its kind. It was opened on May 31 in 1912 to the sounds of festive cantata, written especially for that event. Museum has a huge amount of different paintings and sculptures. You will enjoy works of art by such famous artists as Botticelli, Rembrandt, Rubens, Monet, Degas, Renoir and many others. In addition to permanent collections, works of modern artists are often displayed in its halls.
The museum occupies four buildings – the Main Building, the building for Private Collections , the Gallery of European and American art of XIX -XX centuries and Children's Center "Museyon." Also there are educational museum named after Ivan Tsvetaev and Memorial Apartment of Svyatoslav Richter, which is located in Bolshaya Bronnaya street.
Moreover , since 1980 on the initiative of the pianist Svyatoslav Richter and director of the museum I. Antonova the museum has hosted the annual festival of classical music and painting "December Nights". The main purpose of this wonderful place is to bring people the beauty of the world and to give them an opportunity to understand themselves and history.
