My name is Anastasia, I'm sixteen years old and I live in the beautiful city called Moscow. There are lot of amazing places here and I want to tell you about my favorite one – the Arbat.
It is considered the most popular pedestrian area in the historical centre of Moscow where the past meets the present. Unsurprisingly that it is one of the most popular places with Muscovites and foreign tourists. The magnificent architecture fascinates and attracts millions of people, Arbat is really breathtaking and inspiring. Arbat Street’s appearance dates back 500 years and it is connected with many historic events and characters, there you will see famous Vachtangov Theater and Pushkin’s apartment, where he and his wife spent their honeymoon. Arbat Street is packed with cafes, restaurants, small boutiques and, of course souvenir and art shops. As for souvenir stalls, they are spread throughout the whole area. Here you can buy anything connected in any way with Russia and its traditions: nestling dolls (matreshkie), crockery, Russian fur hats and shawls, pictures and even Soviet emblems and army clothes.
Walk up the Arbat and you will come across Russian “Avenue of Stars”, listen to performances of street musicians and take a chance to be portrayed by street artists. They practise different techniques: dry brush, pencil and pastel. You should also pay attention to the famous Tsoi’s wall decorated by fans of that singer.
I can talk endlessly of this unique street in Moscow. However, it is said that better to see once, than hundred times to hear. Just do it yourself and you will never regret it.
