Welcome to Korolyov!
Before July 1996 – Kaliningrad, on July 1996 under the Decree of the president of Russia B.N. Yeltsin the town’s name Kaliningrad was changed in Korolyov.
Korolyov is a town with population of 183 398 people. It is a cluster of aerospace industries, hosting a considerable number of high-tech companies in command of a unique science and technology and production capability. In the Moscow Region Korolyov is correctly considered one of the leading centers of Russian science and technology. My town was founded on December 26, 1938 in a Moscow suburban area Podlipki. In the 1960 town absorbed a neighboring town – Kostino – and thus emerged Kaliningrad’s present territorial shape.
Korolyov is located to the north-east from Moscow, six kilometers away from the official border of Moscow’s metropolitan area which is the highway encircling Russia’s capital. There are two Federal highways going through Korolyov: Yaroslavskoe and Shchelcovscoe Chaussee. On the south rim of Korolyov there is a national park – Elk Island – a beautiful forest area making the town environmentally attractive and a nice place to live. The territory of the town is a total of 52 square kilometers.
The following prominent Russian artists lived, worked and created here. K.S. Stanislavskij and other known actors of the Drama theatre, writers A.P. Chekhov and B.Y. Briusov, painters representing the movement «peredvizhniki» - I.I. Levitan, K.A. Korovin, M.V. Nesterov, also the founder of the Tretyakov Gallery P.M. Tretyakov. In 1936-1954 writer, scientist and theatrologist S.N. Durilin lived here. In 1939 M.I. Tsvetayeva settled in town after her return from Paris.
