Новикова Елена Сергеевна
Penza is one of the oldest Russian cities that was first mentioned in the chronicles in 1663. It was founded as a frontier outpost on the then southeastern border of Russia. Today it is rather a big industrial, scientific and cultural centre.
All people who visit Penza like the city’s places of interest: its monuments to many famous people, old buildings, beautiful parks, gardens, squares. Besides, there are the best pieces of our cultural heritage in Penza such as three theatres, four museums, and three art galleries including The Museum of One Painting named after G. V. Myasnikov – the only one in the whole world. It was founded in February in 1983 on the base of The Penza Picture Gallery named after K.A. Savitsky. The Museum contains one hall, which introduces only one painting that is usually of great cultural significance. During more than 20 years the visitors of the museum can look at the masterpieces of Russian and foreign art from the collections of the Hermitage, the Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery and other art galleries of the country. The museum has presented such masterpieces as “The Conquer of Snowy Town” by V. Surikov, “Major’s Matchmaking” by P.Fedotov, “The Father’s Greatcoat” by V. Popkov, “Spring” by A. Plastov, “Ship Grove” by I. Shishkin, “Portrait of a Young Woman” by Titian, “Abraham and the Three Angels” by Rembrandt.
