Magnitogorsk is a city in Chelyabinsk region in Russia. It is situated at a foot of the mountain Magnitnay on the Ural River. It was founded in 1929. Magnitogorsk is informally called «the metallurgical capital of Russia». The population is more than 400 thousand people. There are three districts: Leninskij, Pravoberezhnyj and Ordzhonikidzevskij. The city is located in two parts of the world - Europe and Asia. You can find a lot of monuments in Magnitogorsk. I would like to tell you about some of them.
“The First Tent” was opened in 9 May 1966. It is situated in the park of veterans and symbolically represents a tent where the first builders of the city lived.
The monument “Rear-to-Front” was opened in 29 June 1979. It is the first part of a triptych, which consists of “The Motherland Calls” in Volgograd and “Soviet War Memorial” in Berlin. “Rear-to-Front” is a composition of a worker and a warrior, who are holding a sword in their hands. The monument “The First Locomotive” is situated on the station square. There is a tablet on the left side of locomotive “29 June 1929”. And the City Day is celebrated exactly in that day.
There are two mountain-skiing centers in Magnitogorsk, Bannoe and Abzakovo. A lot of people from Russia and other countries come here in winter. You can not only ski but also go to the zoo or just walk and rest.
We should know and remember the history of our hometown. And I’m proud that I was born in Magnitogorsk.
