My City Komsomolsk-on-Amur
Мытник Алёна Владимировна
I would like to speak about one of the greatest cities in Russia, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, which can be called as the Youth City. It stands on the Amur River.
At the moment Komsomolsk-on-Amur is a big industrial, scientific and cultural city in the Far East of Russia. We have got several higher institutions, many libraries, the drama theater, the youth theater, the museum of local history and the museum of fine arts, the art gallery where exhibitions are held and artists and writers meet, and also “Python” animal center where we can see different kinds of animals. Komsomolsk has a number of monuments erected in honor of famous people of the city and the country. For example, monuments to Ryumin, Gagarin, Maresjev, Kalinin, Kirov, Lenin, Ostrovksy, Homenko, etc. One can see the Monument to Ice Crossing soldiers in Apple Park next to the Drama Theater, the Monument to First-builders and Memorial to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War on the embankment. Another memorial stands on the site where Japanese war prisoners were buried, in the Amur Hotel park area.
We can spend our spare time in many recreation centers like cafes, cinemas, night clubs and parks. Komsomolsk is often named as Green City as we have got a bunch of places to go to the countryside. One of those is Amut, the lake in highlands. It can be compared with Lake Baikal in purity. Gorni Village is famous for its waterfall which has dew-clear water glistening in sunlight. One more piece of pure nature is Silinsky Park divided by the mountain Silinka river in two parts. It’s a nice place to fish and rest. I adore my city and I am happy that I was born and brought up here.
