I live in one of the most beautiful cities of the word- Sankt-Petersburg. My favorite place is The Lensoviet Academic Theatre. I often go there and want to tell you about this place.
On the 19th of November in 1933 the first performance of New Theater (the theater was called in the thirties so) “Fantastic sum” of Ostrovsky was presented to the Leningrad public.
In the 1940 the theater left on a tour, but because of the war in the Far East the troupe could return to Leningrad only in 1945. The old building on Vladimirsky Avenue was transferred to the theater in the same year. Today Lensoviet Theater is exactly there. The constructed building in the 1820th years was a private mansion at first. “The Russian merchant society” lodged in a building at the end of the 19th century. There was a gambling hall and a restaurant. People called the club “The gambling house”. They told that there was a palm tree under which the ruined players were shot.
The theme of game and passion you can see in performances “Player” by Gogol, “The Taming of the Shrew” by Shakespeare. Among classical stagings “Lefthander” by Leskov, “Seagull” by Chekhov, “Shadows” by Saltykow-Schedrin. Bold theatre experiments are also presented- “Night and Day”. Among famous actors you can see Sergey Migitsko, Larisa Luppian and Semen Strugachov ,in former times Mikhail Boyarsky and Alice Friendlich were in the troupe of the theater.
