A mystery house with elephants on the bank of the Volga River

K.Golovkin's summer residence with elephants is a unique monument of style modern architecture was built in 1908 according to the project of the owner, the Samara artist, patron of art, motorist, merchant K. Golovkin. He built it for his family to have a good time in fresh air. The house faces the Volga River. You can see it at the edge of abrupt steep bank of the Volga River.
Elephants near the house are made of cement according to Golovkin's drawings. Elephants are hollow, and some documents, photos and the projects concerning construction of the summer residence are hidden in one of them. There is unique acoustics in the house.
Great number of myths and legends are related with the unusual house. It is considered to be a meeting point of ghosts and witches. They say it is possible to be recharged by space power in the house. It is said that number of murders took place in this house and, when a hospital was placed in the house, the patients couldn't recover. Later there was a kindergarten in it, but the children often fall ill and died.
The legend says that K.Golovkin's daughter rushed from the bank to water and drowned in the Volga because of unhappy love. She is buried under one of the elephants. One of the most widespread legends is connected with one more sculpture - graceful female figure near the house. By one of the legends, K. Golovkin has devoted the sculpture to the girl who had committed suicide because of unrequited love. The second legend says K.Golovkin killed a beloved girl who disgraced him, and buried her in the garden. Later he put the sculpture here.
