My name is Natasha Gaiduck. I am a pupil of school 207 from St-Petersburg. I would like to tell you about my favourite parks. Summer garden, founded by Peter in 1704, was laid out by Jean-Baptiste Le Blond and Mikhail Zemtsov between 1712 and 1725 in the Baroque style of the Garden à la française. Three years later, the paths were lined with a hundred allegorical marble sculptures, executed by Francesco Penso, Pietro Baratta, Marino Gropelli, Alvise Tagliapietra, Bartolomeo Modulo and other Venetian sculptors. In the late 20th century, 90 surviving statues were moved indoors, while modern replicas took their place in the park.
The Maritime Victory Park on Krestovsky Island was opened in 1945 and is dedicated to the Allied victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. It quickly became and has remained a popular place among St. Petersburgers ever since, combining roles of a sporting center and a memorial. It is home to attractions, restaurants and even a cozy little beach, and is popular among young people who come to ride their bikes or go skating, while its North and South Lakes are lovely places for a romantic stroll. The Central Avenue ends at a square on which a statue of Sergei Kirov stands, the man who ran the Communist Party in Leningrad before being assassinated in 1934, and after whom the stadium at the park's seaward end is named. St. Petersburg's Botanical Garden - or, to give it its full title, the Botanical Garden of the V.L. Komarov Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences - is located on the Petrograd side, and is one of the oldest Botanical Gardens in the country. The Garden was founded in 1714 by order of Peter the Great as the Apothecary's Garden, and soon became a center for research that was the equal of any other in Europe in terms of the importance and size of its collection. Today, most of the Botanical Garden is designed in English landscape style. Plants from Russia grow uncovered, while the greenhouses house a large collection of tropical and sub-tropical plants; the Garden's 'Alpine hills' are also home to flora from the Caucasus, the Mediterranean, and Asia. The Garden is beautiful!
