History of Komsomolsk-on-Amur begins on May 10, 1932. On this day, first builders landed on the bank of the Amur to build the city. They were mostly young people. But they arrived without the necessary things for them, because they were said all would be but only the pillowcases and sheets were given. When they came to build the city it appeared that there was the village of Perm (founded in1860) and the taiga around. There were 70 peasant homesteads in the village of Perm, and the village was 70 years old. The oldest church (1861-1933) in the village was on the site where now the building of the bus station is standing.
The first-builders arrived on ships, “Columbus” and “Comintern”. They came there by the call of Joseph Stalin, who said that the Far East needed in protection. He decided to build an industrial center of the Far East.
Later the prisoners were sent to build the city, but they were not the people who robbed and killed, but they were smart intelligent and educated people. They were political prisoners. But among them were talented engineers and architects, and the work progressed much faster due to them. In general, there were four categories of people who built the city: Komsomol-members, prisoners, military recruits and young volunteers. The first street of the city – the Pioneer street, the Direct (the Kirov Street), the Round (the Kirov Square) ... The longest street in the city is the Pioneer street, as it was and remains the longest till nowadays.
Now Komsomolsk-on-Amur is the industrial center of the Far East, because there are many enterprises: shipbuilding, aircraft construction, metallurgical plant, etc. It is an integral part in the history of the whole of Russia.
