Orenburg Museum of Fine Arts is housed in a building of 1814 which was intended by the city council and magistrate court. The basis of the museum's works is a collection of a painting academic, artist-realist of democratic orientation, native of the Orenburg region Lukian Vasilievich Popov (1873-1914). Throughout its existence the museum added the collection of ancient arts, and also Russian, Soviet and Western European arts from the end of the XVI century, including paintings, drawings, sculpture, and about 8,000 exhibits of decorative arts. The basic concept of the museum is a reflection of the region art life in a whole context of Russian national culture development. Works of Orenburg painters and sculptors, as well as exhibits relating to the history and culture of the region are paid great attention in the museum collection. All the names of the most talented artists of Orenburg are provided by such personalities as N.Ledyaev, A. Stepanova, N. Erysheva, N. Petya, J. Grigorieva, A.Romaniuk, etc. Undoubtedly, the museum's collection includes the famous Orenburg downy shawls and cobwebs from the early 20th century to the present time.
