The occupation of the place on which Komsomolsk-on-Amur locates dated back in 1860. By the order of the first military governor of Priamurye P.A. Kazakevich the first huts were prepared for the future residents of the village. The first settlers − farmers of the province of Perm gave the village the name of the Perm-on-Amur. Later farmers from other provinces began to arrive here. The main occupations of the inhabitants were firewood for the steamboats, fishing and farming in a small scale.
In the thirties the construction of the plant “Amursteel” and “Amurlitmash” began in Komsomolsk-on-Amur in order to produce steel and lead batteries. Most of them gave its first products in the severe 1942 and made a significant contribution to the defeat of the Nazis and their allies on the Western Front, the Japanese militarists in the Far East. Today Komsomolsk-on-Amur is the third largest city in the Far East, a major industrial and cultural center of the territory. The city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur is the largest industrial center in the Far East and Zabaikalia by the volume of production. The most developed industries in the city are mechanical engineering and metalworking processing, i.e. aircraft and shipbuilding, electrical industry, material handling and processing equipment. Ferrous metallurgy, power energetic, petrochemical industry, light industry, forestry, food processing have a great potential for building of the city complex.
